I’ve dabbled with vegetarianism and veganism during various parts of my adult life. I admit I feel pressure to adhere to one of those diets, being a yogi and yoga teacher. But about a month ago, I made the choice to increase my animal protein consumption dramatically. For some bodies, low protein can lead to things like always feeling cold, heavy fatigue, low mood, cognition and processing problems. That was my experience. 🥱🧠😔
Spine Week! ⛓ Starting today, Monday, we’ll explore spinal extension as we work toward variations of The Big Backbends: Dhanurasana (Bow), Urdhva Dhanurasana (Wheel), and Eka Pada Raja Kapotasana (King Pigeon). One key in finding comfort in these strong shapes is arranging the pelvis so that the lumbar spine remains spacious. I’ll talk you through it, like always. ☺️ See you on the mat!
Gonna see if I can play along with the #6LPs project by @molsballou. This week’s theme is “The Sea” and I was giggling to imagine this collection on shuffle. 🌊😂
Calling all ye lovers of books, book design, typography, lettering, and ephemera. 🤓 The Katherine Small Gallery is also a sweet, bright, charming little shop filled with beautiful tomes on the art and history of the book, a wee exhibition, some graphic art, zines, all sorts of lovely and surprising things that turned out to be exactly the boost I needed on a Friday afternoon. I picked up a tiny book of poems by some local writers and a wildly covered copy of William James’ The Varieties of Religious Experience.
Get ready to wrap things up, it’s Garudasana/Eagle week! 🦅 Twining the legs like this (especially in the more traditional standing variation) is good for stabilization and mobilization of the ankles, helps to light up the entire inseam of the legs (hello, adductors!), and can help to reset the pelvic ring. And balancing is good for your brain. 🧠 So many things to love about Garudasana, and lots of chances to meet me on the mat this week. See ya soon, birdies! ☺️🪶💕
Thanks to folks who recommended @sharefamilydinner to me. It’s the most easy-going version of a #CSA you could imagine. Tons of share options to choose from depending on your diet, multiple sizes, easy to pause or skip some weeks, and easy to add on some a la carte extras. Here are some things we’ve enjoyed over the last couple weeks as we’ve tested the service.
